Tunisia eased some of the pressure on new coach Bertrand Marchand after a comfortable 3-1 victory over Chad helped kick-start their 2012 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on Wednesday.
The Carthage Eagles, who lost their opening game against Botswana last month, had little trouble dispatching the Group K minnows in N'Djamena. Goals from Khaled Korbi and Issam Jemaa put them 2-0 up at half-time, before Fahid Ben Khalfallah netted a third. Ezekiel Ndouassel grabbed what turned out to be a consolation for Chad, who remain on one point from their opening three games.
Victory for the north Africans and their French coach moves them into second place on three points with a game in hand, four behind the Botswanans after they threw away a lead to draw 1-1 with Malawi in the only other qualifier that took place.
The clash in Blantyre saw the visitors move in front after 62 minutes thanks to striker Jerome Ramathlakwane. But the Malawians equalised 12 minutes later through Dave Banda and then held on for a point to double their tally in the group, but which still keeps them second bottom in the race to qualify for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in less than two years.
Elsewhere in a friendly international, Edinson Cavani and Abel Hernandez were on target in the final six minutes to earn FIFA World Cup™ semi-finalists Uruguay a 2-0 victory over Angola in Lisbon.
