Brazilian Rubim takes Benin hotseat
Jose Paulo Rubim was named as the new coach of Benin on Friday, the veteran Brazilian trainer selected ahead of 18 other candidates to fill the vacancy left by Michel Dussuyer.
Rubim, who edged out Frenchman Pierre Lechantre and Nigerian Stephen Keshi among other experienced candidates, has extensive experience in African football. He coached the Liberia national side in 1986 and has also had stints at Gabonese club Port Gentil (1991-93) and Algeria's USM Blida (2005-06).
The Brazilian has also coached in China, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. He replaces Dussuyer, who was sacked after Benin's first-round elimination from the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and has since taken over as coach of Guinea.
