English coach Bob Houghton will remain in charge of India for next year's AFC Asian Cup finals in Qatar.

The 62-year-old former China and Uzbekistan coach is reported to have sent his resignation to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) earlier this week after being unhappy over the delay of a contract extension beyond January's Asian Cup.

But AIFF President Praful Patel has confirmed the former Fulham midfielder will remain in charge as India, who won the 2008 Challenge Cup, prepare to face World Cup finalists Australia and Korea Republic as well as Bahrain in Group C in Doha next year.

"I spoke to Bob a few days back and the reports that he has resigned are completely baseless," said Patel in New Delhi today.

"He has certain issues as expressed by his agent. But that does not mean that he is no longer coach. He continues to be India coach and he will be there in the Asian Cup."
