Jamaican international Oraine Simpson was fatally stabbed on Tuesday. The 26-year-old was stabbed multiple times in the Tivoli Gardens slum, on the outskirts of the Jamaican capital Kingston, several hours after having a quarrel with a man.
Simpson made his debut for the Reggae Boyz in 2005 and played his club football for local top flight side Tivoli Gardens Football Club.
"It is shocking to learn of this terrible news," said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter in a letter to Horace Burrell, President of the Jamaica FA. "It is inconceivable that at such a young age, a player has left us. He will be sorely missed."
"Throughout his association with the national team, Oraine displayed the qualities that one would want in a national representative," said Burrell by way of a statement. "He was well-mannered, committed, willing, represented the country with pride and was always a team player."
