Metsu to stay at Qatar helm
Despite Qatar's failure to qualify from Group 1 of Asian Zone qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, the country's Football Association (QFF) announced on 18 June that French-born coach Bruno Metsu has been given a new five-year-deal at the national-team helm.
Re-appointing the 55-year-old Frenchman has been done "to give confidence to the national coach and to communicate a message of stability for players so that we can fulfil our dream of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil," said QFF President Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa Ben Ahmed Al-Thani.
Qatar finished back in fourth in Group 1 after picking up just one win and three draws from their eight games in Round 4. Metsu was originally appointed last after a spell in charge of the United Arab Emirates, who he successfuly steered to victory at the Gulf States Cup in 2007.
