An attacking midfielder who could score and create goals in equal measure, Platini started out at Nancy before helping Saint-Etienne become French top-flight champions in 1981. A high-profile move to Juventus followed and he duly excelled in Turin, helping La Vecchia Signora win two Serie A titles, the European Cup and the Toyota Cup.
At international level, Platini inspired France to UEFA European Championship glory in 1984, and was the star of the Les Bleus side that finished third at the 1986 FIFA World Cup Mexico™. Overall, he was on target 41 times in his 72 caps.
Zico began his career with Flamengo, who he propelled to a series of domestic honours, the Copa Libertadores and the Toyota Cup. An irrepressible playmaker, he is also O Mengão's leading all-time marksman. The free-kick specialist also starred for Udinese in Italy and in Japan.
