FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has been in Cairo since Monday 17 January 2005 at the 28th Confederation of African Football Congress (CAF).
In the course of his speech, he reaffirmed to the CAF members and its president, Issa Hayatou (vice-president of FIFA), the will of world football's governing body to ensure that the entire African continent benefits from the immensely positive impact of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
"All of Africa must get the most out of this event. As part of the project 'Win in Africa… with Africa', FIFA is setting up an international foundation in conjunction with eminent personalities from contemporary life in Africa and worldwide," Mr. Blatter declared.
Following his address, the FIFA President was given a standing ovation by all those present.
In addition, at the Congress's opening ceremony, CAF presented FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi with the CAF Order of Merit silver medal.
Finally, Jacques Anouma (Cote d'Ivoire) and Amos Adamu (Nigeria) were appointed to FIFA's Executive Committee. They will succeed Ismail Bhamjee (Botswana) and Amadou Diakite (Mali) from the FIFA Congress of 2007.
