Kazan crash on final day
Newly-crowned champions Kazan finished the season with a 2-1 home defeat to Lokomotiv Moscow on the final day of the Russian Premier League season.
Kazan top the final standings with 60 points from 30 matches, four points ahead of second-placed CSKA Moscow. CSKA's city rivals Dynamo Moscow claimed third place with 54 points. Lokomotiv took the lead in the 15th minute at Kazan when their Nigerian forward Peter Odemwingie applied a close-range finish to midfielder David Mujiri's cross.
Kazan forward Alexander Bukharov levelled the scores 20 minutes later with a precise shot inside the left-hand post from the edge of the penalty area. However, the visitors snatched victory in injury time through Denis Glushakov, who capitalised on a mix-up in the hosts' defence to fire the ball past helpless Kazan keeper Sergei Ryzhikov.
CSKA suffered a 1-0 away defeat against already-relegated Yaroslavl. Yaroslavl started in lively fashion before their forward Maxim Buznikin missed a huge opportunity to open the scores when his 12th-minute penalty was pushed away by CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev.
Buznikin, though, did not have long to dwell on his failure. He won another penalty in the 34th minute after being fouled by CSKA skipper Sergei Ignashevich and stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick with aplomb. CSKA poured forward in search of an equaliser and created a series of chances but failed to find a breakthrough in the absence of the league's top scorer Brazilian striker Vagner Love, who was suspended.
Third-placed Dynamo put the seal on their campaign with a comprehensive 2-0 victory at home to Tomsk. Striker Alexander Kerzhakov put the hosts 1-0 up with a precise penalty in the 16th minute, and the former Russian international netted his second in the 77th minute to secure a well-deserved win.
