Ancelotti: We're on the right path
AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has claimed his side are on track to hitting top form, despite an unconvincing 2-1 victory at Reggina. Milan took the lead through a first-half header from Marco Borriello, but were pegged back when former Manchester City striker Bernardo Corradi prodded home from inside the six yard box after the break.
However, Kaka crossed for young forward Alexandre Pato to snatch a winner, giving i Rossoneri their second successive Serie A win and moving them into the top half of the table. "Maybe we weren't convincing or in control but we managed to be clinical when it mattered," said Ancelotti.
"I'm happy with the victory because it keeps us on the right path. I'm sure our play will improve ahead of the next game." This next game is the Milan derby, and should they lose to Inter Milan, Ancelotti's side will find themselves seven points behind their arch-rivals in Serie A.
Milan signed seven players in the summer, with Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko the most high-profile ones. They were expected to make a serious title challenge this season, but lost their first two games. Ancelotti has nevertheless been pleased with Pato's development.
"," he said. "I have to admit that Reggina caused us some problems in the second half but thanks to (goalkeeper Christian) Abbiati we managed to get through the difficult moments."
Borriello limped out during the second half, though, and will miss the derby. "It's nothing in paritcular, we hope it's nothing serious, we just have to wait a few days," said Ancelotti. "It's a muscular problem but he won't be fit for the derby."
That means that either Ronaldinho or Shevchenko could start against Inter, or maybe even both. "They're getting better. Even if you're not at 100 per cent in terms of motivation you can still play," Ancelotti added.
