West Ham United have signed Iceland U-21 defender Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson on a "long-term contract" from Kopavogur, the London side announced. The 17-year-old had a week-long trial with the Hammers last season.

West Ham finished tenth in the 2007/08 Premier League. The club is renowned for its impressive youth academy.
 
Meanwhile, Czech goalkeeper Marek Stech has signed a new five-year contract with West Ham.
