Liverpool announced on Friday that they have signed Italian defender Andrea Dossena from Udinese.

The left-back joined shortly after the Reds signed Swiss right-back Philipp Degen. Like Degen, Dossena has signed a four-year deal.

The 26-year-old replaced Norwegian John Arne Riise who left for Roma earlier in the close season and joined for an undisclosed fee reported to be around £7m.

He has been capped once by Italy, in a friendly last year.

Degen joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
