A traditional powerhouse climbed to the top of the table in Argentina, while another continued to struggle in Brazil, and Uruguay saw no action at all as their domestic league postponed its final round of matches.  With the leaders going nine points clear in Korea and the finalists set in Mexico and Chile, FIFA.com takes a look back at the weekend’s action from outside of Europe.

Argentinian Clausura: River run through
River Plate are now joint-top with Estudiantes after the Buenos Aires side managed a 1-0 home win against Huracan on Saturday and their La Plata rivals were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Independiente.

The other Buenos Aires giants Boca Juniors, meanwhile, may have been caught looking ahead to their midweek Copa Libertadores date with Fluminense, as they were held 1-1 away to Velez Sarsfield.

Big game: San Lorenzo scored on either side of half-time to secure a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Colon de Santa Fe.
Headline Grabber: Drama was in the cards all weekend, as four games saw crucial goals scored after the 80th minute. Diego Buonanotte notched an 81st-minute winner for River, Lucas Viatri levelled the score for Boca in the 85th minute, and Nestor Gabriel Martirena and German Denis each hit 86th-minute equalisers for Gimnasia La Plata and Independiente, respectively.

Brasileiro: Holders held
Two-time defending Brasileiro champions Sao Paulo are still winless through three matches after a 1-1 draw at home to Cortiba.  With just two points, O Tricolor Paulista are seven points adrift from leaders Cruzeiro, who have the maximum points from three matches after a 4-0 win over Santos.

Nautica, co-leaders last week, went down 2-0 at Gremio, who are now joint-second with Flamengo.

Big game: The Carioca derby went 84 minutes between goals, with Eduardo Luiz opening the scoring for Vasco in the first minute and Luicio Flavio equalizing for Botafogo in the 85th minute. The 1-1 draw leaves both teams in the middle of the table with four points.
Headline Grabber: Guilherme’s brace sent Cruzeiro off and running in their unexpectedly easy victory over Santos.

Uruguayan Clausura: On hold
The Uruguayan league decided to put the final round of the Clausura on hold for a week due to the Uruguayan national team’s friendlies against Turkey in Germany on Sunday and at Norway on Wednesday.  Seven players from domestic clubs made the trip to Europe.

That means one more week of tense anticipation for fans of River Plate and Penarol.  The two Montevideo sides remain joint leaders, which may force a play-off if they are still even after next weekend’s final round.

Korean K-League: Bluewings take flight
Suwon Samsung Bluewings came out of the weekend smelling like roses after their 1-0 win over defending champions Pohang Steelers and Seongnam Ilhwa’s 1-1 draw with Seoul left Bluewings nine points clear at the top of the K-League table.

Big game: Jeju United continued their climb from the bottom with a second consecutive win, this one coming 3-1 at home to Gwangju Sangmu Phoenix.
Headline Grabber: Brazilian playmaker Romulo recorded a hat trick for Jeju to lead his side to just their third win in 11 games.

Elsewhere
In Chile, Vina del Mar side Everton held Universidad de Chile to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their Apertura semi-final.  The result hands Everton a 4-2 victory on aggregate and sends them through to the final, where they will face Santiago giants Colo Colo.

The final of the Mexican Clausura play-off is also set.  Cruz Azul advanced 2-1 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 in their second-leg tie with San Luis, and Santos Laguna got a 90th-minute goal from Fernando Arce to send them through at the expense of Monterrey, the two sides drawing 3-3 on aggregate but Santos advancing by virtue of finishing higher in the league table.
