After the departure on Thursday of the Brazilian Gilberto, Hertha Berlin have swooped for Czech Republic international Rudolf Skacel in a loan deal.
The Bundesliga outfit have an option to buy the 28-year-old, who has won three caps for his country, from English club Championship Southampton at the end of the current season.
"We are delighted we were able to secure the services of such an experienced midfielder who can play in several positions on the left side of midfield," said Hertha manager Dieter Hoeness.
Hertha moved fast to bring in Skacel after Brazilian Gilberto's on-off move to Tottenham Hostspur was finally confirmed late on Thursday.
After reports in the German press at noon on Thursday that the move had fallen through due to a failed medical last weekend caused by a problem with the Brazilian's ankle, however Spurs confirmed the switch late on Thursday.
