Brechin City have been thrown out of the Scottish Cup after being found to have fielded two ineligible players in their 2-1 fourth round replay win over Hamilton.

Both Michael Paton and Willie Dyer joined Brechin between the drawn first match and the replay, making them ineligible to play under SFA rules.

Hamilton will now play Aberdeen in the fifth round.

The SFA had on Wednesday fined Brechin £10,000 and ordered a replay in the belief that only one ineligible player, on-loan Aberdeen striker Paton, had taken part in Monday's match.

It later emerged that Dyer, who signed permanently from St Johnstone, had also been ineligible, prompting the SFA to review its decision.
