AC Milan, Real Madrid and Lyon were three high-profile clubs from the top European leagues who went out of their respective cup competitions last week. Two of them got back to winning ways over the weekend, but the French champions slumped to another heavy defeat.
Lyon were, in fact, the only leaders from France, England, Spain and Italy not to seize all three points, although Inter Milan left it late with Zlatan Ibrahimovic snatching them victory on what was a busy weekend of football. With the German Bundesliga still on its winter break, FIFA.com gives you a rundown on developments in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

Reading, while the Gunners had a much easier time, cruising to a
3-0 victory at neighbours Fulham thanks to a brace from Emmanuel
Adebayor and one from Tomas Rosicky.
Chelsea are still third, Claudio Pizarro's goal 11 minutes from time giving them all three points after a tight encounter with Birmingham City, while Kevin Keegan's remarkable return to the managerial hot-seat at Newcastle United was marked by a dull goalless draw at home to Bolton Wanderers.

more than one occasion. It was Ruud van Nistelrooy who added to
Real's advantage just before the interval to help seal the win
and bump Atletico down to fourth in the table behind
Villarreal.

Perrin's men were soundly beaten 3-0 by Lens - their heaviest
