Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has confirmed he will leave the club in June at the end of his current contract.
"I made my decision known to the club's officials three weeks ago. I want to leave the job at the end of the season," he said.
"I will now do all I can to win trophies for Bayern in the time left to me," the 58-year-old Hitzfeld said.
Hitzfeld has been in talks to take over as coach of Switzerland after this summer's Euro 2008 tournament which the country is jointly-hosting with Austria, but no decision has been taken.
Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness had earlier signalled Hitzfeld's departure in an interview with Bild newspaper.
"In June, Hitzfeld will no longer be our coach," he said. "You can take it for sure that he will be leaving but not before June."
Hoeness, however, gave no indication of who could be in line to take over as coach with the Baverian giants. German press reports have recently mentioned the name of Dutch national team coach Marco van Basten.
Hitzfeld joined Bayern for a second time in February 2007, but was unable to win the league title last year and despite topping the Bundesliga going into the winter break, Bayern's performances have disappointed the club's fans.
In his first spell in charge of Bayern he led the side to four league titles in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003 as well as the UEFA Champions League title in 2001. Prior to that he took Borussia Dortmund to two league titles in 1995 and 1996 as well as a Champions League win in 1997.
