AFC Champions League winners Urawa Reds said on Friday that they had snapped up former Palmeiras striker Edmilson from another J-League side, Albirex Niigata.
The 25-year-old Brazilian will bolster Urawa's frontline after the departure of compatriot Washington for Brazil's Fluminense after the 2007 J-League season, which ended last month. Details of the deal were not made public.
Edmilson, whose real name is Edmilson dos Santos Silva, has scored 62 goals in 116 J-League matches, including 19 goals in 29 matches this season, since joining Niigata in 2004 after three years with Palmeiras.
At Palmeiras, he scored seven goals in 12 matches in 2003 to help the club return to the top Brazilian Serie A from the second division.
The right-footed striker was transferred to Niigata on loan in 2004 and was sold to the J-League club for an estimated 300 million yen ($2.6 million) in 2005.
