Panionios claimed their second successive victory at the start of the new Greek Superleague season with a 1-0 success at Veria tonight. The newly-promoted side had their moments but they had no answer to Costas Mendrinos' goal five minutes into the second half.

FC Xanthi moved up to second after stunning AEK Athens 1-0. Marko Markovski scored the only goal after 58 minutes with AEK's hopes of getting back into the contest hindered by the 70th-minute dismissal of Nikos Kourellas.

Platanias secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 defeat of Panthrakikos. Elias Anastasakos put the hosts ahead on the half-hour mark and Markos Maragoudakis added a second two minutes before half-time.
