Jankovic replaces Prosinecki at Crvena Zvezda
Crvena Zvezda have announced Aleksandar Jankovic as their new coach after the surprise resignation of Robert Prosinecki.
"That the club called me at such a difficult time gives me real satisfaction", Jankovic, who previously coached the Serbian heavyweights in 2007/08, told journalists.
Prosinecki's resignation came just days before Crvena Zvezda host French team Bordeaux in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off round tie.
Jankovic said: "This is a delicate moment, with the match against Bordeaux, we have a lot of work ahead of us. There is not enough time to prepare for the match, but I expect that the players will show club spirit and will understand the importance of matches in the European competition."
Jankovic, who is also the coach of Serbia's U-21 side, signed a two-year contract with Crvena Zvezda.
After his playing career was cut short by injuries at 28, Jankovic, 40, has worked as an assistant coach for Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia, Belgium's Lokeren -- where he also made it to head coach for several months in 2009 -- Metalurg Donetsk from Ukraine and Lokomotiv Moscow.
