Goalkeeper Diego Lopez is looking forward to a fresh start with Sevilla after enduring a difficult year at Villarreal.

Lopez was a regular as the Yellow Submarine were relegated on the final day of last season and he was one of the first to move on as he joined Sevilla for a fee in the region of €3.5 million.

However, despite only arriving at the Andalusian club a few weeks ago, the 30-year-old is already comfortable in his new surroundings.

He told AS: "It is like I know everyone already and I am very happy to be here. When you find everyone to your liking and working so hard I can say I have made the right choice in signing for this team."

Sevilla also suffered last season as they limped to a ninth-placed finish, eight points off their target of a UEFA Champions League place, and Lopez believes a fast start is the key to avoiding that disappointment again this season.

"I consider the first few games make a great impact on the rest of the season and we have to arrive at a 1000 per cent for the first games because these matches will be fundamental before we welcome Real Madrid at home in the fourth game. This squad, though, is more than capable of fighting for the top spots."

The Spanish international has even welcomed the competition of having to battle for his place with veteran Andres Palop.

"We have to fight. We are two players for one position just like any other place on the field and we have to work as hard as possible with desire and intensity and then it is the decision of the manager," he added
