Borussia Monchengladbach have signed Spanish defender Alvaro Dominguez from Atletico Madrid to replace Bayern Munich-bound Dante.

The 23-year-old Dominguez will pen a five-year contract after completing a medical this morning. "Alvaro Dominguez was the player we wanted as our left-sided central defender, which we needed to find following Dante's move to Bayern Munich," Gladbach director of sport Max Eberl said.

"He was a starting regular for Atletico Madrid, won the Europa League in 2010 and 2012 and recently broke into the Spain national team. We are proud that he has decided to join Borussia."

In addition to the 28 appearances he made in La Liga last season, Dominguez appeared 12 times in the UEFA Europa League, scoring one goal. Borussia Monchengladbach will embark on their first UEFA Champions League campaign in three decades next term.
