Jose Maria Basanta sent Monterrey into the semi-finals of the Clausura play-offs as a 2-2 draw in a bad-tempered match gave them a 4-3 aggregate win over Tijuana.

Things were looking bad for Monterrey, who finished second in the table, when they conceded to Egidio Arevalo Rios after nine minutes, then had Angel Reyna sent off just after the half-hour.

But Cesar Delgado levelled on the stroke of half-time and the numbers were evened up with Miguel Almazan's dismissal five minutes after the restart.

Rios scored again from the spot in the 61st minute to level the tie, but Basanta netted four minutes later and the match was effectively over when Tijuana were reduced to nine men as half-time substitute Armando Pulido saw red in the 72nd minute.

In the day's other game, Pachuca won 1-0 at Club America but it was not enough to overturn the first-half deficit.

Nestor Vidirio scored the only goal after 37 minutes but America held on for a 3-2 aggregate win.
