De Boer reflects on Ajax conquest
The crown was all but secured following the weekend win at FC Twente, which left Ajax needing only a point against VVV-Venlo to make sure, but they clinched it in style with a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Amsterdam ArenA.
The former Netherlands defender told the club's official website: "It was on Sunday, after the win against Twente, that we had all the natural euphoria. But I am satisfied with how we dealt with it yesterday."
De Boer was particularly proud of the way his players stuck together through what, at times, has been a trying season for the club due to various off-field squabbles at board level.
He added: "This, for me, is a triumph for the squad. The sense is that the boys have desperately needed each other and have pulled together when it was needed."
Van der Wiel, Vertonghen in demand
De Boer's task now is to keep the squad intact for another assault on the UEFA Champions League, with defenders Gregory van der Wiel and Jan Vertonghen likely to be in demand this summer.
"If we can keep the group together...," he said. "With age comes experience. You need that in a team, especially in the Champions League.
"If Van der Wiel and Vertonghen leave then that will be a big chunk taken out of the squad. Other players must stand up."
