Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu admits rivals Montpellier would be "idiots" to let the Ligue 1 title slip away after PSG's defeat to Lille yesterday. Carlo Ancelotti's side led through Javier Pastore's goal early in the second half but the match turned on an incident 20 minutes from time which saw Mamadou Sakho sent off before Eden Hazard equalised from the resulting penalty.

Nolan Roux then grabbed a winner for the hosts, leaving PSG five points adrift of Montpellier with four games remaining. They are also only two ahead of Lille, raising the spectre of slipping into third place which would force them to enter next season's UEFA Champions League at the third qualifying round.

Sirigu told L'Equipe: "We are very sad. The title is forgotten - if Montpellier let it slip away, they are idiots! The disappointment is enormous. Nevertheless, we have to finish well for the club's reputation."

The capital club had chances to build on their lead before Hazard's equaliser and Ancelotti gave credit to Lille keeper Mickael Landreau, who made good saves from Kevin Gameiro and Aurelien Chedjou to keep his side in the game.

"I am naturally disappointed," said the Italian. "It affects me, but this is normal. We have lost an important match which we controlled after opening the score. But we didn't kill the match off - Gameiro, in particular, had a great chance but Landreau had a great game."

But the former Chelsea boss declined to criticise centre-half Sakho after his foul on Roux sparked the comeback. "On the pitch, you have the right to make mistakes," he said. "I am not angry with him. He must pick himself up quickly."
