Porto crowned with Benfica held
Porto were crowned Portuguese champions tonight after nearest challengers Benfica were held to a 2-2 draw at Rio Ave.
Benfica's draw means Porto, who beat Maritimo 2-0 last night, are now six points clear with only two games remaining and therefore win the title thanks to their better head-to-head record against the Lisbon outfit this season.
Benfica trailed early on to a Christian goal, but battled back to take a half-time lead through goals from Nolito (37) and Oscar Cardozo (40). However, hosts Rio Ave drew level again five minutes after the break through Yazalde and Benfica could not get another goal to leave reigning champions Porto celebrating their sixth league title in the last seven years.
At the other end of the standings, Feirense climbed out of the bottom two with a 4-0 win at last-placed Uniao Leiria, with Miguel Pedro, Pedro Queiros and Bedi Buval netting the goals.
Elsewhere, a barnstorming start helped Nacional beat hosts Vitoria Setubal 3-0 with Mario Rondon netting a brace in the 22nd and 34th minutes to add to Mateus' fifth-minute opener.
Also tonight, Beira Mar beat Pacos Ferreira 2-0 in a match where three players were sent off. The goals came from Artur's 11th-minute penalty and Javier Balboa's 60th-minute effort, with Beira taking the points despite finishing with nine men following the dismissals of Chengdong Zhang (45) and Nildo Petrolina (63). Pacos also had Vitor sent off in the 38th minute
