Freiburg need just one more win to secure their Bundesliga status for another year after extending their unbeaten streak to seven games with a goalless draw against Hoffenheim.

Christian Streich's side played a confident game, but rarely posed a goalscoring threat while Hoffenheim appeared happy to take a draw which keeps them in the hunt for a place in the UEFA Europa League next season.

The visitors improved in the second half after suffering in the first 45 minutes, but a draw was a fair result, satisfying both sides.

It was one-way traffic for much of the first half with Freiburg only lacking a goal to support their dominance. The closest they came was in the 16th minute when Sebastian Frei's shot was blocked by the face of Daniel Williams as he was getting up from the ground just in front of his goal.

Cedric Makiadi's effort was blocked in the 35th minute as Freiburg continued to come up against a wall of white shirts whenever they got into their opponents' penalty area. Andreas Beck then almost snatched the lead for Hoffenheim when he stole in around the back of the Hoffenheim defence, but he pulled his volley wide of the near post with his weaker left foot just before half time.

The home side's furious first 45 minutes appeared to take their toll in the second half as the pace of the game dropped. Hoffenheim started to gain the upper hand with more possession, but it was their turn to come up against a wall of defenders as they failed to penetrate into the penalty area.

The home side found their second wind late on with Daniel Caligiuri hitting the outside of the post with a shot from a tight angle, but like in the first half, they were unable to find a way through.
