Caen picked up three precious points in their fight against relegation as Nicolas Seube's early effort proved sufficient to defeat Bordeaux 1-0 at Stade Michel d'Ornano. Seube's header after two minutes sealed a first win in seven Ligue 1 matches for Caen, who are now out of the drop zone by one point.

Defeat for Bordeaux means they have now gone four games without a win and are dropping away in the race for a European berth. The visitors were left to rue a penalty miss by Ludovic Obraniak in the 14th minute that might have changed the tide of the match, but Caen were good value for the win.

The first attack of the match inside two minutes handed the hosts the lead, Jerry Vandam raiding down the right wing and producing a perfect cross for Seube to steer home a superb diving header. Caen's euphoria was almost short-lived when Bordeaux were awarded a penalty 12 minutes later when Gregory Leca fouled Nicolas Maurice-Belay, but Obraniak failed to keep his head from the spot as he placed his penalty wide of Alexis Thebaux's goal.

Frederic Bulot flashed a shot wide for the hosts on 19 minutes and shortly before the interval was involved in a move that ended with a snap shot for Leca that was charged down by the visiting defence.

Caen continued to boss the chances after the break with Faycal Fajr's curling effort after 58 minutes saved by Cedric Carrasso, while the Bordeaux goalkeeper also had to be alert to deny Bulot from the edge of the box on 65 minutes.

Bordeaux carved out a rare chance to snatch a point after 84 minutes when Maurice-Belay fired in a low effort after the home defence fail to deal with a corner, but Thebaux made a good save to preserve his clean sheet and the three points.
