Ajax could have forward Derk Boerrigter and full-back Gregory van der Wiel back for the Eredivisie title run-in after both made comebacks from injury in the reserves last night. Boerrigter has been sidelined since November with a back injury but scored twice in the 4-1 win at Heracles.

Dutch international Van der Wiel also made his return from a groin injury which has kept him out since before Christmas. "It's really good to be back on the pitch," Boerrigter told the club's official website, www.ajax.nl. "To score twice is nice as well. "I was given painkillers beforehand but could play freely and I quickly found my rhythm."

Van der Wiel added: "I am very pleased. It was nice to get back into a live game - I have been looking forward to this moment." Both men could now play a part as Ajax look to retain their Eredivisie title. The Amsterdammers are one-point clear of AZ Alkmaar with six games remaining.
