Swansea mourn Chinaglia
Swansea City have expressed their sadness at the death of former striker Giorgio Chinaglia at the age of 65. Chinaglia was found dead at his home in Florida yesterday morning. He had suffered complications following treatment for a heart problem.
Chinaglia was born in Italy but was raised in Cardiff, and started his professional career with Swansea, making six appearances for the club between 1964 and 1966, scoring one goal, before returning to Italy. He went on to play for Lazio and the New York Cosmos, where Pele and Franz Beckenbauer were among his team-mates, and won 14 caps for Italy.
A statement on the Swansea website said: "Everyone at Swansea City Football Club is saddened to hear that former player Giorgio Chinaglia has passed away, aged 65. The striker made six appearances for the Swans, scoring one goal during his short time at the club.
"He lifted the West Wales Senior Cup in 1965, scoring against Llanelli in a 3-0 win but returned to his homeland a year later."
