Massimiliano Allegri has extended his contract as coach of Italian champions AC Milan until June 2014, the club confirmed today.

Allegri's previous deal was set to expire this summer.

A statement from Milan read: "AC Milan announces that Massimiliano Allegri has extended his contract until June 30, 2014."

The 44-year-old led Milan to the Serie A title last season in his first year in charge.

Milan are the top of the standings, level on 37 points with Juventus ahead of Sunday's derby against Inter Milan.
