Two goals from Martin Harnik earned Stuttgart all three points in their encounter against Augsburg today as they secured a 2-1 win.
Harnik opened the scoring in the 41st minute, but Tobias Werner gave the visitors hope early in the second half. That was dashed within four minutes, though, as Harnik added his second to earn the Swabians all three points and take them up to sixth in the table.
There was a full house at the Mercedes-Benz stadium, including nearly thousands of fans from nearby Augsburg. And their team ensured that the minority's voice was heard as they frustrated the home side so much that the home fans were soon muted.
That changed in the 41st minute, though, when Harnik put Stuttgart ahead with practically their first shot of the game. He received the ball from a poor clearance from Dominik Reinhardt and he beat Mohamed Amsif with a right-footed effort.
However, Augsburg levelled early in the second half when Daniel Baier cut the ball into the centre from the right wing and Werner left Sven Ulreich no chance with a powerful shot into the top right-hand corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Augsburg were level for just four minutes, however, before Harnik restored the home team's advantage with his second goal of the game. The Austrian international picked up the ball out on the left and cut inside past one Augsburg defender before picking his spot in the far corner.
Tamas Hajnal claimed a penalty in stoppage time when he went to ground inside the area, but the spot kick was not given.
