Roncaglia to face Racing, Riquelme to miss out
Good and bad news on the fitness front has arrived in tandem for Boca Juniors ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Racing Club on Sunday.
Versatile defender Facundo Roncaglia, who limped out of their 0-0 draw at Velez Sarsfield last time out, has declared himself available for the Bombonera duel, but playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme will continue on the sidelines.
The latter, who has played 51 times for Argentina, scoring 17 goals, has been out for a month with a foot injury. The 33-year-old hopes to be ready to face Godoy Cruz on 27 November.
Riquelme had been one of the stars of this Apertura before sustaining the injury.
However, Cristian Chavez, a diminutive 25-year-old who has come into his own this year, has done a fine job deputising for the former Barcelona and Villarreal man.
Julio Cesar Falcioni’s Boca are eight points clear of second-placed Racing, coached by Diego Simeone, with five rounds remaining.
Los Xeneizes' last title was the Apertura they won in December 2008, while La Academia, another member of Argentina’s ‘big five’, are chasing a first trophy in ten years.
