An 89th-minute goal from Luis Bolanos gives Liga de Quito a narrow advantage to carry into the second leg of their Copa Sudamericana quarter-final against Libertad.

The game appeared to be ending goalless when Bolanos netted with time running out for the Ecuador side on Thursday. It leaves the tie well balanced ahead of the return in Paraguay on 17 November.

Winning coach Edgardo Bauza said: "We faced a very ordered team, with much experience. I'm really satisfied with the team because we managed to create seven or eight chances. We didn't have the luck to score more of those, but football is like this. The important thing here is that we won."

Meanwhile, Universidad de Chile won their first match in Argentina, 2-1 against hosts Arsenal. Eduardo Vargas put Universidad ahead just before half-time but Juan Caffa crossed for Mauro Obolo to equalise shortly after the restart.

Gustavo Canales was fouled in the box 10 minutes from time and took the penalty himself, converting to give Universidad de Chile a victory which extends their unbeaten run to 23 matches.
