Basel moved a point clear at the top of the Swiss Super League table after recording a comfortable 4-1 home win over second-bottom Grasshoppers.

The match was as good as over in the opening 26 minutes as Basel raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Xherdan Shaqiri, Stephan Andrist and Alexander Frei.

Grasshoppers pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when Nzuzi Bundebele netted, but Basel added a fourth 13 minutes from time through Fabian Frei as the reigning champions climbed above Lucerne, who have a game in hand.

In today's other game, third-placed FC Sion moved to within a point of Lucerne after second-half goals from Vilmos Vanczak and Dragan Mrdja earned them a 2-0 home win over FC Thun.
