Hannover captain Christian Schulz refused to blame goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler for the Bundesliga club's failure to beat FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Europa League last night.
A mistake by the young goalkeeper enabled Copenhagen to grab a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at the Niedersachsen Stadion, but Schulz defended his side's number one.
"Ron has played some amazing games for us," he told Goal.com. "Okay, maybe he was a bit at fault for the goal, but mistakes happen and it is not as if we outfield players are immune to them. It's just when you are a goalkeeper, it is twice as annoying because generally you concede a goal when you commit an error."
The result left the Reds in second place in their group behind Standard Liege, but only one of their remaining three games will be played at home.
"It is frustrating because we could have landed a big point today," continued Schulz. "It is even more annoying when, in the 89th minute, you think you have secured the win but then you let it slip. It is particularly frustrating in view of the head-to-head record. We have now had two home games and we have not managed to win one."
