Velez Sarsfield booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa Sudamericana after seeing off Chilean outfit Universidad Catolica in the last 16 on Thursday.
The Argentinian side enjoyed a 2-0 advantage after the away leg and had few dramas on Thursday as they played out a 1-1 draw on home soil to secure a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Universidad started at a brisk pace knowing that they needed at least three goals to progress, and went ahead on 29 minutes through Gonzalo Sepulveda's long-range effort.
But the hosts looked a different proposition after the break and finally put the tie to bed when Fernando Ortiz nodded home from a free-kick.
Velez's opponents in the last eight will be either Botafogo or Santa Fe. Peruvian outfit Universitario are also into the last eight but only after needing penalties to see off Argentina's Godoy Cruz.
The two sides drew 1-1 in the first leg in Argentina, and the same result in the return leg ensured the tie would be settled from the spot.
Godoy Cruz had gone ahead just before the break through Israel Damonte, but Universitario levelled through Andy Polo six minutes from the end before going on to prevail 3-2 on penalties.
