DC's hopes end with Portland draw
DC United saw their play-off hopes come to an end after drawing 1-1 with the Portland Timbers in Wednesday night's sole MLS encounter at RFK Stadium.
Kenny Cooper fired visiting Portland into the lead after 24 minutes but it ended honours even after Dwayne De Rosario levelled for the hosts 17 minutes from full time.
The point leaves DC seventh in the Eastern Conference and now officially out of the play-off picture, while Portland stay alive in the west but need other results to go their way in the final round of fixtures.
Should the Philadelphia Union do them a favour by defeating Red Bull New York today, Portland can reach the play-offs with victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
