Podolski: Cologne fans are totally unique
Cologne attacker Lukas Podolski believes the club's fans have been key to his improved form.
The Germany international has scored three and created a further two goals in his team's last two matches, helping them achieve back-to-back wins to reverse a poor start and climb to tenth in the Bundesliga table.
Cologne coach Stale Solbakken said Podolski is "the best player" in the league at present, but a humble Podolski said he would be nothing were it not for his hometown club's supporters.
"These fans are absolutely unique in the Bundesliga," he told the Bild newspaper. "When I see what kind of an atmosphere they create when we win, it is sensational. It gives me goosebumps.
"They push me to perform so well. Cologne fans are everywhere and I am delighted that we have such support."
And Podolski is thrilled to be able to make them happy with his goals.
"It does you good when you see people on the street smiling and children happily waving Cologne flags in the air," he added.
"Two illnesses knocked me back a bit, but now I am feeling good and my aim is to get even better."
