Peruvian giants Universitario reached the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana by beating Venezuela's Deportivo Anzoategui 2-0 for a 4-1 aggregate win on Wednesday.

Argentinian playmaker Martin Morel missed a 54th-minute penalty and was then sent off for a foul on Carlos Lopez.

But despite playing with 10 men, Universitario took the lead on 74 minutes through Raul Ruidiaz and Pablo Vitti doubled their advantage seven minutes later with a superb free-kick.

Vitti told Fox Sports: "We played a good match tonight. We controlled the ball in the second half and did our job quite well. We have to go step by step. There are very tough rivals in this tournament and Godoy Cruz come next."

In Chile, Iquique and Universidad Catolica played out a goalless second leg to ensure Universidad Catolica advanced 2-1 on aggregate. They will now play Argentinian champions Velez Sarsfield in the last 16.
