Stuttgart coach Bruno Labbadia admitted his side only had themselves to blame for last night's 1-0 defeat at Hertha Berlin.

The Swabians missed numerous chances to score and were punished by a late winner for the home side, thus failing to take the opportunity to move to the top of the Bundesliga with a victory.

"This is an incredibly bitter defeat," said Labbadia. "We are not rewarding ourselves and that is a very, very big shame."

For Hertha, it was their first home win in the Bundesliga in two years and, although their coach Markus Babbel admitted luck had played a part, he was nevertheless satisfied.

"The fans gave us such amazing support and we therefore wanted to reward them with a win," he said. "In the end, we were slightly fortunate but not undeserved winners."

Hertha's first win of the season lifts them up to mid-table, one point above Stuttgart.
