Vasco away goal enough to eliminate Palmeiras
Palmeiras won 3-1 on the night but went out of the Copa Sudamericana as Vasco da Gama scored a vital away goal on Thursday.
Vasco da Gama had won the first leg of their second-round clash 2-0 and goals by Michel Luan in the 12th minute and Kleber, eight minutes after half-time, saw Palmeiras draw level.
However, their joy was short-lived as four minutes later Freitas Jumar scored and, although Marcos Assuncao produced a stunning effort in the last minute, the away goal was sufficient to knock the Sao Paulo-based side out 3-3 on aggregate.
In a first round match, a late goal by Victor Guaza and a last-minute Juan Giulberto Nunez saw La Equidad confirm their passage with a 2-1 win at Juan Aurich after Mauricio Montes had given the hosts an early lead. La Equidad had won the first leg 2-0.
