Portland Timbers moved fourth from bottom after a 1-0 win over Chivas USA in Major League Soccer Western Conference on Wednesday.

Eric Brunner scored the only goal a minute before half-time. Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy pulled off a series of spectacular saves to keep Chivas in the game.

Victory saw the Timbers leapfrog D.C. United as well as Chivas, and they are now tied for the fourth and final wild card position alongside New York Red Bulls, though the latter still hold the advantage based on goal differential.
