Academica edge Rio, Braga climb
Academica kept up their 100 per cent start to the new Portuguese Liga season with a 1-0 win at home to Rio Ave. The goal came in the 16th minute courtesy of Guinea-Bissau striker Antonio Eder, leaving Rio Ave still searching for their first win of the campaign.
Braga climbed up to fourth with a 2-0 win at home over Maritimo following their goalless draw against Beira Mar on the opening weekend. Both goals came in the second half through Uwa Echiejile and Rodrigo Lima respectively.
Pacos Ferreira won 2-1 in a fiery encounter at home to Uniao Leiria in which both sides had a man sent off. Maciel Ozeia was dismissed for Pacos a minute before half-time, but the numbers were levelled in the 50th minute when Jo was given his marching orders.
Substitute Lorenzo Melgarejo broke the deadlock to give the hosts the lead before Michel added a second. Daniel Maykon pulled a goal back in the final minute for the visitors.
Beira Mar played out their second goalless draw in as many matches with Sporting Lisbon at the Estadio Municipal.
