Xie Zhiyu and Du Wei scored as Hangzhou Greentown came from behind to beat defending champions Shandong Luneng 2-1 in the Chinese Super League at Shandong Sports Centre.
The hosts were in front on the half-hour mark thanks to Han Peng's header before Xie drew his side level eight minutes later with a 15-yard strike. Du scored the winner at the second attempt 12 minutes before time, handing the reigning champions their second consecutive defeat.
The hosts should have opened the scoring after 16 minutes when Zheng Zheng earned a penalty, but Wang Yongpo's powerful shot was palmed out by goalkeeper Jiang Bo.
Shandong then opened the scoring when Brazilian defender Fabiano Medina da Silva connected with Hao Junmin's corner at the far post, heading the ball to Han in front of the goal-line before the ace striker calmly headed past Jiang.
Xie cancelled the goal out after he collected a clipped pass from Honduran forward Randy Diamond and blasted home from 15 yards. The hosts were still on top, controlling possession through the middle, with the opponents making a series of desperate attempts to keep them at bay.
Du scored the winner in a goalmouth scramble, collecting a rebound off a Shandong defender following his first 20-yard drive before beating keeper Yang Cheng with a low shot.
"I felt that I was responsible for the defeat," said Shandong coach Rajko Magic. "My players fully adhered to my plan and they did play well. "My second-half strategy turned out too risky. Had we maintained the first-half strategy, we should have won the match."
It was Shandong's first defeat at home this season and they are now on 33 points in the fourth place of the 16-team league.
