Sporting Kansas City defeated Portland Timbers 3-1 to go third in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference on Wednesday.

Graham Zusi was the major difference between the sides, netting after 25 and 40 minutes to give his side a two-goal lead at half-time.

Soony Saad made it three after 72 minutes before a late consolation from Chinedu Dike.

The result helped Kansas overtake Houston Dynamo, who salvaged a 1-1 draw with New England Revolution in the dying seconds.

Ryan Cochrane put the Revolution ahead in the fourth minute and that looked to be enough for three points until Boby Boswell scored with 90 minutes on the board.
