Eduardo Herrera struck in the 90th minute to make it three wins out of three for Unam Pumas at the start of the new Apertura season with a 2-1 victory over Monterrey on Wednesday.
Efrain Velarde gave Unam Pumas a short-lived lead in the 25th minute before Neri Cardozo hit back, but Herrera's late strike left no time for reply. It was a first defeat for Monterrey, who drop to third behind Santos Laguna, who have six points from their opening two games, and a game in hand on Unam Pumas.
Club America slumped to a home defeat as they surrendered the lead to go down 2-1 to Tecos, and then suffered the further indignity of finishing with nine men. A 34th minute own goal from Mario Perez put the hosts in front, but Damian Zamogilny levelled on the hour mark and Rubens Sambueza bagged the winner 10 minutes later. Things got worse for Club America when Erick Pimental saw his second yellow card and a red with five minutes left, and Paul Aguilar was sent off four minutes later.
Jaime Ayovi scored in the 86th minute to lift Pachuca to a 1-0 win over Cruz Azul.
Atlante bounced back from two defeats to open the season as they enjoyed a 5-1 thrashing of Puebla. Luis Venegas opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Giancarlo Maldonado added a penalty and Christian Bermudez made it 3-0 with four minutes left in the first half. After Lucas Silva got one back for the visitors before the hour mark, Bermudez got a second before Juan Cuevas wrapped up a comprehensive win in the final minute.
Francisco Torres bagged a brace as Atlas beat Queretaro 3-0. Torres scored in the 40th and 80th minutes, before Mauricio Romero capped it with a late strike.
Late goals from Nestor Calderon and Antonio Naelson saw Toluca come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Tigres Monterrey. The hosts had led through strikes from Hector Mancilla and Lucas Lobos before Calderon's 71st minute goal began the comeback.
