Manchester City's latest signing, Sergio Aguero, is confident further silverware lies ahead for the English club as he and his new team "grow together".
The Argentinian striker signed yesterday from Atletico Madrid was presented to the media at the Dublin Cup pre-season tournament. The 23-year-old will not feature, however, in City's matches against an Airtricity XI or Inter Milan, with his debut instead scheduled for the Community Shield fixture against Manchester United at Wembley on 6 August.
Aguero has set his sights high, insisting that the chance to add to City's FA Cup success last season was the driving force behind his move. "I was very interested in playing here as it's a growing club and I hope that we can grow together," he said.
"I think we have great players and a great team. I am playing at one of the best English teams at the moment and there are many things that can be achieved. We can win many titles and hopefully it will be a top year for us."
It seems all but certain that Aguero, the son-in-law of Argentina legend Diego Maradona, has been signed as a replacement for compatriot Carlos Tevez, who has not featured at all during the club's pre-season campaign amid ongoing speculation over his future.
Aguero was non-committal over the prospect of either teaming up with or replacing Tevez, saying: "We are good friends and play together in the national team but whatever he does is up to him, I just want to concentrate on playing here.
"If he is here, then that is great. If not, then I will adapt without him. Who is here and who is not does not matter, what is important is that I become part of the team. It is easy to adapt these days."
