Former France international Ousmane Dabo has announced his retirement at the age of 34. The Frenchman, who enjoyed a 16-year career playing in some of Europe's top leagues, has decided to hang up his boots after a long battle against a succession of injuries.

Dabo, capped three times by his country, has been at New England Revolution since February but managed just three appearances for the MLS outfit. "This is a very tough decision for me, and I'm frustrated to have not been able to help the Revolution more," Dabo told www.revolutionsoccer.net.

"I've had some physical issues that I haven't been able to heal, so I've decided to retire and release the club from my contract. I very much wish the New England Revolution all of the best and thank them for everything."

Dabo began his career with in his homeland with Rennes in 1995 before stints at Inter Milan, Parma, Atalanta, Monaco and two spells at Lazio. He also spent two and a half seasons at Manchester City between 2006 to 2008.
