Heynckes expects more from Ribery
Injuries affected the Frenchman's performances last season, as Bayern could only manage a third-placed finish in the Bundesliga. That relative failure led to the departure of Louis van Gaal and the arrival, for a third spell at Bayern, of Heynckes.
The 66-year-old told Bild: "In today's football, the team needs to function as one, particularly defensively. Franck Ribery must be integrated into that like any other player.
"He must realise what he needs to improve his game, just like [Thomas] Muller, [Mario] Gomez, [Bastian] Schweinsteiger, [Philipp] Lahm and the rest. We have so many top players so I do not need to focus on one."
Ribery finally took to training with a ball at Bayern's pre-season camp in Italy this morning, and he is hoping his health concerns are now behind him.
He told Munich's TZ newspaper: "I feel good and have no problems. I am fit to start the season. Under Heynckes the fun has returned. It was missing under Van Gaal. That is why he is a highly regarded coach and will give us a great season."
