Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Portuguese defender Silvio from Sporting Braga on a five-year contract. Silvio revealed immediately after Braga's UEFA Europa League final defeat to Porto last month that he was on his way to Atletico and Los Rojiblancos have confirmed the switch today.

A statement on the Atletico website read: "Atletico Madrid and Sporting Braga have reached an agreement to close the signing of the Portuguese defender Silvio. The new player will wear the Rojiblanco shirt for the next five seasons."

The 23-year-old full-back, who has three caps for his country, came up through the youth ranks at Benfica and played for Atletico Cacem, Odivelas and Rio Ave before joining Braga last year. He will be presented by Atletico tomorrow at 1230 local time at the Vicente Calderon stadium.
